Although you may already be familiar with the Gartner Magic Quadrant reports—they are the most widely known and viewed evaluations of vendors in different markets—Gartner also publishes complementary Critical Capabilities research that compares vendors’ capabilities based on rigorous analysis and a highly structured methodology.

To explain How Products and Services Are Evaluated in Gartner Critical Capabilities, Gartner states:

It is possible that a highly rated vendor in a Magic Quadrant can have a low-ranked product or service in the Critical Capabilities, because even leading vendors can produce products or services that miss the critical needs of the market. Conversely, lower-rated vendors in Magic Quadrants may struggle to make their businesses thrive but produce a tightly focused and highly targeted product or service that outranks all other vendor offerings. Obviously, the general trend is for leading vendors to provide leading products and services, and the purpose of the Critical Capabilities is to provide an assessment framework for rating them.

The 2021 Critical Capabilities for Master Data Management Solutions assesses MDM vendors’ solutions across 11 capabilities required to support the following five use cases:

  • MDM of B2C customer data
  • MDM of B2B customer data
  • MDM of Buy-side product data
  • MDM of Sell-side product data
  • Multidomain MDM

For organizations trying to get a holistic view of vendors and evaluate best fit based on a specific usage scenario, it makes sense to review both the Magic Quadrant and companion Critical Capabilities reports. Informatica has licensed both documents so everyone can make the most informed choices possible.

At Informatica, we believe MDM solutions should be:

  • Easy to Deploy – All-in-one SaaS solutions with the most comprehensive, cloud-native, iPaaS capabilities that speed deployment and time to value
  • Easy to Use – Business-oriented user interfaces, with AI-powered intelligent automation to increase self-service and productivity
  • Easy to Adapt – Manage multiple domains (such as customer, product, or supplier), with simple consumption-based pricing to increase agility and long-term value

See for yourself why Informatica maintained its highest rank across all use cases in the Gartner  2021 Critical Capabilities for Master Data Management Solutions.
